So I'd suffered my way through the clinical exam with a modicum of dignity, and decided it was time to call the store I'd been to an interview at and ask when I'd hear from them.

4 hours later, the boss called.

The reason he hasn't called before is that the girls that work there(4 optometrists, 7 assistants) really wanted him to hire a guy. And that he'd been waiting to see if they'd change their minds. Now that I called, he asked them again, and they still want a guy. It doesn't matter that I am the only one that applied, that I am highly qualified for it, or that the boss seems to want to hire me (he was surprised when I said I'd gotten a strong impression they would hire me when I was there, though). The bitches are going to wait till August and see if some guy wants to work in a small west coast town. There aren't many male optometrists. There aren't many good male optometrists (guy or not, the boss doesn't want to hire someone incompetent). There aren't many optometrists who want to work in that area. What the FUCK is wrong with these people that they want to refuse me for lack of an Y chromosome???

A classmate suggested going to court to get the job. And I could, I'd have a VERY strong discrimination case here. But... I'm just floored at the arrogance. And although it'd be very hard, right now I am hoping I somehow manage to find a job somewhere I'd like just as well and that they end up being short staffed. After all, they can't be THAT desperate if they want to spend 3 extra months understaffed to see if they can find a guy they can hire instead of me!

Oh my Cel  what a ridiculous scenario, I can't believe the man actually SAID that to you! I think you definitely could go to court but..you wouldn't want to work there given the obvious pettiness of the group.

*wishes you a better offer soon*
