Today, before picking up my prize cache of free comics, I went to a bridal boutique and tried on two wedding dresses, with the intent of seeing how sheer sleeves look on me.
It was a bizarre experience. I couldn't walk backwards due to a big frilly thing following me around, I had something tight around my waist and a ton of tulle around my legs, I was pinned up the back and standing on a little pedestal in front of a huge mirror. It felt totally alien to wear something like that, but at the same time, I felt pretty. Part of me even slightly wanted a lacy thing like that! (I did try on a pretty gown, with flared crepe gauze sleeves and a split skirt overlay of more gauze with lace and beads here and there. The second gown wasn't quite as pretty.) And my sweetie looked pretty awestruck; he commented that he had never seen me really dressed up before :)
The girl that helped me was really nice, I felt a bit bad for not buying anything from her. She was joked I was flustered about wearing the dresses, called the pinned bit on the back of the second dress my 'shark fin', chatted with me about ugly dresses like the 'patriotic' ones, said she had once been forced into a bridesmaid gown that showed up on www.uglydresses.com, didn't like the lack of sleeved dresses any more than I did and informed me that Maggie Sottero started out making Mormon style dresses :)
Maybe I'll buy at least a headpiece from her.
We looked at some tiaras while I was there, and now we have a pretty clear idea of what kind of tiara suits me.
I also got a clearer notion on what sleeves and what colors would suit me, so it was overall a fruitful little expedition.
And to be honest, the expression on my sweetie's face when I was all dolled up was by itself worth the experience :)

*ahem* Sorry. Um. Yes. Even I want to try on some wedding dresses some day, and I have no intention of needing one. I think it's hard not to be girly in that aspect :D
