We flew north today at around 2 pm. At this time of year, there is no sunshine at 70th latitude, and the sun sets around 3 pm at 60th. So, on our way north, the sun set behind us.

I have on numerous occasion seen the earth's shadow rise and set opposite of a setting or rising sun. This is normally a subtle change from dark blue to darker blue, bordered by a ribbon of pink known as the belt of venus. From 35 000 feet, it was quite different. The sky was bright blue with barely a tinge of colour at the edge of the shadow on the atmosphere, and the shadow itself was a deep slate blue. It was a tremendously eerie experience to see the world go dark beneath me, sunlight still hit the wings of the plane, and a wall of night rising ahead of us.

It's icy up here, but not as bad as I feared. Computer was willing to turn on after its two week hiatus, which is good (and more than it would after my august vacation). Spammers have found one of my email addresses, and I am incredibly tired.

And yes, I did take pictures of the wall of night, and may post them at some point.

My sister got the new version of Pride and Prejudice for christmas, so I have now watched it.

I renamed it "Pride and Prejudice on the Farm", which is set in a period fantasy universe (much similar to medieval fantasy with girls in skimpy outfits and such). KK's Lizzie was about as flat as her chest (speaking of which, I suspect a girl looking like her would be either poor or have consumption back then. I guess nobody told her it was once attractive to look like you could afford to feed yourself), I cannot recover from the barnyard the Bennetts had on their front porch, and exactly what year were the costumes supposed to be from?

On the bright side, I did like how they made Mary more human and less caricature (I've always had a soft spot for the girl with the glasses), and I liked Donald Sutherland.

Other than that, my icon sums it up.
