I guess it's safe for me to return to lj now

My copy of Deathly Hallows arrived in the mail this morning.

I really liked it.

I liked that there were two early deaths, so I was never sure how many others would die (after all, what constitutes a main character?)

I liked that my hunch about Snape was correct, both that he might die and that he might be a Good Guy after all. The way it was done was better than I could possibly have imagined; he must be the most reluctant hero ever!

I liked that the apparent coincidences early on had good explanations later, especially with regards to the sword.

I liked that Neville got his moment of glory.

Lupin and Tonks could have been treated better.

I liked that Harry could have chosen to truly die in the end.

I liked that I couldn't put it down for the last 200 or so pages.

I liked that the bad guys were so clearly ruled by fear.

I liked that Dumbledore got a few dents in his character. They made him both less heroic and good, and more human.

I liked that Slytherin was not considered quite as much as Has To Be Bad at the end.

I loved the Ravenclaw 'passwords'.

Most of the epilogue was a bit too sugary and offspring-laden.

I liked the last two sentences.

All in all, I am pleased with my decision to avoid anything even remotely spoilerish in the past week, even 'spoiler-free' reviews. I went in with no preconceptions, and I believe I enjoyed it more for that. (Heck, I have a nasty habit of looking at final pages when stories get too intense for me, and I managed to resist even that urge this time and benefited from it :) )

I very much agree that Lupin and Tonks could've been treated much better. I don't feel like she did right by them.

This may be interesting for you: all the stuff that didn't make it into the epilogue - http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/19959323/
This was more satisfying to me than the actual epilogue.
