So, the population of Java received no tsunami warning on Monday, in part because they were busy monitoring aftershocks and in part because the government didn't want to start a panic with a false alert. This is fairly stupid, considering what happened in 2004.
However, what is even more stupid is that people claim their first warning was the big dark wall of water, and that there are news stories talking about people wading around on exposed beaches picking up fish because they weren't warned about the tsunami. After 2004, how do they not know that a receding shoreline is a prime indicator that a giant wave will be coming your way shortly??
