I screened school kids for visual problems today.
This is something I've been anxious about, as I didn't do too well (read: slow) when we did this last spring. So, when I managed to keep pace with the classmate on my left and was faster than the classmate on my right, I was encouraged. I ended up screening 6 children whereas most of the others did 4 or 5.
I also talked a bit with the instructor, who inadvertantly confirmed my suspicion that my previous clinic instructor was pushing for speed way to hard way too soon (which resulted in me obsessing about how slow I examine patients).
Removing that stress element seems to let me focus more on what I am doing and how to do it efficiently without obsessing about spending too much time, and I end up doing it with more confidence and faster. Go figure.
