Surprising benefit of a sleepless night:

We were awake when something (the fridge, most likely) said fwoom and an acrid smell that he said smelled like burning electrics and I thought smelled like gunpowder filled our apartment.

We unplugged everything, aired out everything, are reasonably sure there isn't a fire in the wall, and didn't sleep till 8 am.
