The case for mocking religion
My husband found this. I liked it.
Deliberate agitating is still stupid, though. I am for freedom of speech, I can mock my own religion to a certain point, but when there are lots of embassy burnings (done by a handful of people) and when the muslim acceptance in Denmark has been polarized into with-us-or-against-us after these cartoons (to the point where a muslim stand up comedian is moving from Denmark to England because nobody will laugh at his jokes anymore), I feel it all boils down to: don't make jokes about religion that pertain to people who may not have a sense of humor about it.
I also wonder if the cartoons would have gotten the same reception if Muhammed's face had been blanked out the way it is in old Arabic art.
Incidentally, that Danish newspaper refused to print some Jesus caricatures in 2004 because they might offend people.
