Even with no actual sunrise, I can tell it's still getting darker. On monday I saw earth's shadow set as I arrived at work (that thing where you see a band of red and then a band of dark below it on the opposite horizon - the dark is earth's shadow on the atmosophere, happens relatively late in the sunrise process) and yesterday I saw stars half an hour earlier than my usual work time. I've always felt like the world before sunrise is kind of a different planet than the world where the sun is shining, and living here now is emphasizing it. I can see the glow far off in the distance and it's in another world.
Work has been insanely hectic the past two days. I had 7 eye exams and sold 5 or 6 glasses yesterday, and had 3 eye exams and sold 4 glasses and a ton of watches on wednesday. Also found out yesterday that I have committed my first large cockup in an eye exam; I had a patient with an astigmatism two weeks ago and no matter what I did he was answering as if it wasn't there anymore. He'd come back to the store this week saying his glasses weren't working and my boss had corrected it. He took me aside for a few minutes yesterday and showed me how he thought I'd made the mistake (the patient thinking fatter letters = better) and a particular test he'd used to verify that the astigmatism really was there. I kind of got the impression I am below par for the course with regards to errors, but I'll still obsess about it for a few days. We've also had another optometrist applicant, so he asked me how I'd feel about working different shift hours and about taking more classes (contact lens qualifications, primarily) since if we get one more person we will be able to have optometrists at our mall store during all mall hours as long as some of us are willing to work till 8pm. I kinda hope we get this other person, it'd take some pressure off of the three of us currently working and make it easier to get a day off here and there without crippling the store.
