New years eve where my parents live was quite fiery.

70 or so grass fires caused by rockets, to be exact. One of them just outside my parents' house, with 10 foot flames on the edge of the neighbors' garden.

That should be enough reason to have had them banned. When I was a child, we rarely had fireworks because of the dry conditions.
